This issue has come about in early June 2024 where Teams classic will not open or run on user computers.
We have found that some instances of Windows version 1909 do not run the new teams and anything earlier than 177X (something around that version) wont work either.
For these instances you can sometimes just run the teams home version that is downloaded from their teams web version.
Its worth starting at running "winver" to find which version they have, then uninstalling Teams classic if a new one will run on their device. Then the following steps will work, you can use these steps as a copy / paste for anyone that submits a ticket regarding the issue.
- go to the start menu and type in "Settings"
- Look for "Update and security" click on that
- on the left hand side look for "for developers"
- Then in that menu make sure either "Developer Mode" is switched on or "sideload apps" is switched on (its one or the other of those)
- THEN
- go to the orthonet homepage
- In the top left of the red banner you see a 9 dot grid, click that
- Open up teams
- If it asks you to switch to New Teams do so
- Then in the top right corner by your icon select the three horizontal dots
- click download the desktop app
- scroll down a bit on the page that opens
- On the section that says Teams for work or School select the drop down box
- Select the option that says Teams for Windows 64 Bit
- wait for it to download then once it does click on it or open it
- then go through the prompts to install the new teams and you should be good to go
